Together with the neighbouring Austrian town of Ischgl, Samnaun makes up the Silvretta Arena ski area and is one the biggest ski areas in the Eastern Alps. The selection of ski pistes available is huge. Those who are proficient can enjoy steep downhills with gradients of up to 70%, while those who prefer things to be a little less speedy, can carve their way through the Samnaun mountains on the moderately difficult pistes.
The three 'Smugglers' Circuits' are especially long. The 40 to 60 kilometre routes through the entire ski area follow the tracks of former smugglers, who brought luxury items from Switzerland to Austria.
